Up 'til now we
haven't offered a course for teaching your child to read. Basically,
it's because I just haven't found one that I really really really like.
That is 'til now! I have found a course, I really like! If
you have enjoyed Cindy Rushton's, Ellen Dana's and Barb Shelton's books
for the elementary grades - you will like this book. What Barb and
Cindy have done through their writing - Valerie Bendt has done for READING!
And what I love is that this Reading course will go hand in glove with
the Jumpstart Navigator, Booklet Building Book, Make My Own Phonics Book,
Language Arts the Easy Way, Draw Write Now, Learning to Read through Nature
Pages, and our booklet Homeschool Scrapbooking. But let me tell you
why I love this book!
1. It is Simple! And I love
Simple!!
2. It is Christian in content.
3. It is written by a homeschool mom who
has written other great materials!
4. It is phonics based - yet helps children
with sight words, too.
5. It progresses systematically - your
child builds confidence quickly because he quickly starts to master the
easy lessons.
6. The phonics skills build through
the entire book - they do not drop off after several lessons.
7. There are hands on activities
and writing projects to do with your child.
8. There are games to play.
9. Contains 108 easy lessons (Over
500 pages - talk about your money's worth!)
10. It is NON- Consumable.
So it can used by many children.
11. The binding lays flat - so it
convenient for lap teaching.
12. It is very non-intimindating
- our six year old loves the lessons - short & sweet - yet you are
really accomplishing something!!
13. The last several lessons have
a continued story you share with your child - it's a beautiful story that
your child reads portions of.
~ this book is easily
accomplished in a year. However, it can be used over 2 years.
It is so easy to use to the ability and needs of your child. If you
want to teach your child to read, this is the book. It is similar
in style to "Teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons" - however, it
is more systematic and keeps up the phonics and the stories are real and
the content is christian. The illustrations are drawn by children.
It's a delightful - wonderful reading course. I only wish I had had
this 8 years ago when I was teaching my first child to read. It is
excellent.
