Strayer - Upton Math Recently
a publisher we work with excitedly shared with us about Strayer Upton Math.
I'd never heard of it. If it's not saxon, Abeka or now Math U SEE - I just
don't hear about math. He was very excited as he shared that this Math
course has been used in many schools - many mennonite ones too and that
it is fairly fairly new to homeschool circles. But a professor in Tennessee
has been doing some research on this course and he has found that students
taking this course score extremely high and well in math. I am very excited
about this math course. Let me tell you why. This is just a plain old fashioned
math book. The structure of the course is wonderful. Lots of drill (so
you can gear when your children has had enough and move on accordingly).
Just great no nonsense math. That has achieved tremendous success with
students using it. The first book begins with addition skills and builds
many other skills too. Then the third book goes into geometry, bank account
balances, installment buying, - just alot of very practical math along
with what most other courses teach, great foundation for higher Math in
High School. I am really excited about this. And the price is wonderful.
Each book covers approximately 2 grades. Each book has over 500 pages.
Just a tremendous buy. Many homeschool families are searching for a good
math program that will give them good results (and this does) - at a price
they can afford. At these prices every family can invest in a good math
course. I think as more and more homeschool families find out about these
- you will see them crop up in more homeschool catalogs.

this book was originally printed in the later part of the 1800s. Written
by Ellen White. I read it years ago on the recommendation of Dr. Raymond
Moore. Then I came across the 6 volume set of books by Charlotte Mason.
I was so amazed that the same type of educational ideas were in both. Both
of these ladies lived in the same time period but separated by the Atlantic
ocean and as far as I know they didn't even know each other. This
book is full of what "True Education" is. It has done more for me in my
homeschooling of the children than any other book (outside the Bible).
That is a strong statement. But it is a book that I keep bringing out and
rereading portions and each time (and maybe this is just with each year
of growth) I find new ideas, new hope and encouragement to keep on the
task of educating my children not just for this life - but for eternity.
A must read. If you have been blessed by the writings of Marilyn
Howshall on Lifestyle of Learning you will find that this book is surprisingly
